Get to know Sophie Schartner

Sophie is originally from Georgia but moved to Switzerland as an adult to mark a new chapter in her life, embracing new challenges such as family, motherhood, and learning new skills like languages, riding a bike, climbing, and skiing. Her favourite Swiss saying, “There is no bad weather, only bad clothing,” offers her perspective on all areas of life, helping her overcome challenges and adjust to new circumstances.

  • What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love exploring and trying new things, always ready to dive into new experiences. I dedicated myself to ballet, starting as a small child, and practised passionately until I was 23. After that, I turned to Georgian folk dancing, which taught me both discipline and the art of self-expression. I love the fusion of Swiss precision and Georgian passion, and this is evident in my life outside of work, whether it’s in cooking and hosting, or the way I build relationships with family and friends.

  • Who is your childhood hero?

Holden from The Catcher of the Rye. He wasn’t really a childhood hero, but he was my first literary love. I adored his deep cynicism, mixed with his care to protect others, especially children.

  • Where is your favourite place in the world?

Either the Black Sea, Rosswald or home sweet home!

  • If you could change one thing about the recruitment industry, what would it be?

Although I’m not directly involved in recruitment, I have some ‘passive knowledge’. If I could suggest a change, it would be to look at candidates as a whole person, not just focusing on their skills and experience. It’s crucial to also consider their ability to adapt, work well with others and handle various situations.

  • What is your favourite app on your phone?

Spotify for podcasts, especially about psychology and parenting. I enjoy listening to insights on child development, emotional intelligence, and family dynamics, all topics that engage me as a mother. On days when I feel extra motivated, I dive into HR related podcasts for fresh ideas.
